Day 25 (02/03/13) Living in NYC

Sunday, February 3, 2013
Temperature between 33F and 23F.

Last night, it snowed a little bit.  There was some snow on the ground and on car’s windshields this morning.  Today, I explored the upper West side of New York.  I started my day with a latte from Joe the Art of Coffee in the Graybar passage at Grand Central.  The latte was not bad but I prefer the ones from Rize Coffee, Stumptown, and Blue Bottle.

I took a train to W. 81st Street station and walked around the area.  I ended up having lunch at Chirping Chicken on Amsterdam Avenue.  I had their grilled chicken strips platter and it was good.  It came with one side and a drink.  Then, I went to the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) and spent a few hours there.  I had confused this museum with the New York Historical Society Museum and Library.  I thought they were the same.  At the AMNH, I also paid extra to see a Journey of the Start show.  It was a great show.  I love watching stars in a planetarium.  Before I left, I stopped by one of the gift shops and got this magnet.

After AMNH, I went to the New York Historical Museum and Library.   I got in for free as it was part of the free museum weekend sponsored by Bank of America.  I really enjoyed the multimedia show about the history of New York City.  The museum itself is not very big.  I got this magnet from there.

Then I explored the upper West side further.  I walked to Broadway and went north.  On the way, I took this picture of snow on leafs on a sidewalk.

My first stop on Broadway was at Zabra’s, a local supermarket.  It reminds me of a Trader Joe’s.  I bought a few things to take to work for lunch this week.  Then, I stopped at Cafe Lalo for a piece of black forest cake.  I posted a question on Romio.com on where I could find the best black forest cake in New York.  One of the answers I got was to try Cafe Lalo.  The cake was good but I think there is a better one out there.  The best one I ever had was from a bakery shop at the Erawan Hotel in Bangkok.  The hotel is gone and it is now a Peninsula Hotel.

I was so tired by the time I got home around 6 PM.  I had a Superbowl on but didn’t really watch the game.  I watched the half time show though.
