Day 24 (02/02/13) Living in NYC

Saturday, February 2, 2013.
Temp 26F to 30F with light snow at night.

Starting my day with no water in the building.  I decided to explore the upper East side today.  I went to Rize Coffee for my Saturday latte as usual.  Then, I went to Grand Central to visit a special exhibition by the New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex and Store called Grand by Design.  Yesterday was the 100 years anniversary of Grand Central.  I attended their free tour at 11:30 AM.  The tour was informative and it explained the history of the building.  I bought this magnet from the store.  I was hoping to get a magnet to commemorate the centennial but they didn’t have one.

They decorated the building with the number 100 on the window.

After the exhibition, I took the #6 train to E 86th Street.  I walked around the area looking for a place for lunch.  I found a new Mexican restaurant with a grand opening sign, El Aguila, and “100% Mexican,” so I tried.  I had a carnitas burrito.  It was good but very greasy.  While I was eating, there was a guy coming in and selling DVDs of new movies for $5 each or two movies for $9 (from overhearing the conversation at the next table).  Two guys next to my table bought two movies.  It was very interesting.  Then, I went to the Guggenheim Museum and the Whitney Museum since this weekend was a free museum weekend for Bank of America customers.  The spiral ramp was closed at the Guggenheim Museum because they were installing a new exhibition.  Whitney Museum showcases American artists and offers free tours.  I was my first time there.

I wanted to explore the upper east side a bit more and I found Lady M Cake Boutique on E 78th Street.  The store was full so I bought a piece of their original Mille Crepe cake to take home.  I was on the fence between that and the green tea cake.  They both got great reviews on Yelp and Foursquare.  The original cake was very good.  I cannot wait to go back there to try their green tea cake.  Here is a picture of the cake.  It is made of many thin layers of crepe and cream.  So yummy.

I ended my day with a quick trip to Harold Square.  I wanted to stop by H&M store to see the new collections and because I got a 30% off coupon for this weekend.  I did good and did not buying anything.

For dinner, I had kung pao chicken, a glass of hefe-weissbier, and a piece of delicious original Mille Crepe cake.
